Introduction

GPOD is a tight, product-focused team with a very niche but very passionate audience. Golfers who love improving their swing, love gadgets, and definitely love a good deal when they see one.

Their brand vibe is clean, sharp, and performance-driven, very “tech meets sport.”

Their buyers? Mostly everyday golfers who want pro-level training tools without the hassle.

And like many fast-growing DTC teams, GPOD wanted to make their Black Friday offer feel exciting without turning their Shopify backend into a mess.

The Challenge

GPOD wanted to run a multi-level, progressive discount offer during Black Friday. The goal was to encourage shoppers to buy more than one unit.

The structure they wanted:

  • Buy 1 → 20% off
  • Buy 2 → 25% off
  • Buy 3 → 30% off
  • Buy 4 → 35% off
  • Buy 5 → 40% off

Shopify’s native discounting couldn’t support this for three reasons:

A. Shopify cannot display multi-tier discounts on the product page
Native tools don’t allow showing multiple discount milestones or real-time unlock states on the PDP.

B. Shopify cannot update the unlocked discount automatically
Shopify does not change displayed pricing as quantity changes unless heavily customized.

C. Discount codes would require manual setup and ongoing maintenance
Running five discount levels through codes would create complexity, testing overhead, and high support volume.

GPOD needed:

  • A way to show all discount levels on the product page
  • A real-time unlock bar that reacts when quantity changes
  • Automatic syncing of the correct discount into Shopify checkout
  • Zero discount-code management

The Solution

GPOD implemented Hype to run their multi-level offer directly on the product page and automate all discount logic behind the scenes.

A. Configured all discount tiers inside Hype

Inside Hype, the team set up the exact 20% → 40% progressive structure.
Hype handled:

  • Discount calculation
  • Tier logic
  • Eligibility rules

No discount codes or theme changes were required.

B. Added Hype’s “Unlocked Savings” bar to the product page

Using Hype’s embedded component, GPOD placed the green progress bar (shown in the screenshot) directly below the “Add to Cart” button.

The bar displayed:

  • 20%, 25%, 30%, 35%, and 40% tiers
  • The current unlocked level
  • A progress indicator showing how many more units unlock the next tier

This made the offer visible at the exact moment shoppers make purchase decisions.

C. Enabled real-time updates as shoppers changed quantity

When a customer increased quantity:

  • The correct tier unlocked instantly
  • The bar highlighted the newly reached level
  • Pricing synced automatically into Shopify checkout

There was no manual testing or discount-code failure risk.

D. Automated the entire promotion during BFCM

Once configured, GPOD did not need to:

  • Create multiple discount codes
  • Monitor discount behavior
  • Fix pricing issues
  • Adjust offers across products

Hype managed all pricing logic automatically.

Results

A. Clearer visibility of savings
Shoppers understood the offer immediately because all tiers were displayed in one place.

B. Increase in multi-unit purchases
Customers added more units to reach the next discount tier, improving quantity per order.

C. Higher AOV using the same product
No changes to product catalog or bundles were required, AOV increased through pricing structure alone.

D. Clean and predictable promotion execution

The offer ran without:

  • Discount code issues
  • Checkout mismatches
  • Manual adjustments
  • Customer confusion
